A Thank You Shout-Out To David Johnston of 960 The Ref!
For the most part, my conversations
with David Johnston
of WRFC
960 The Ref (see right) have
been limited to short hellos, even though we have seen each other at various
University of Georgia
sporting events over the years. And every morning, the kids and I listen
to him and Chris
Brame as we drive to school.
They are easy going and fun to listen to. After the LSU-Georgia
game a few weeks ago, he saw me outside the coliseum and asked me about
the pictures
I was taking from my stage
manager position. We chatted for a few, and then I made an observation
to him. You see, there is one segment of their show that I have to keep
my hand on the radio dial for. It is a joke segment. For the most part
they are fairly harmless jokes, and more often than not they are groaners.
Once in a while though, they cross a line that, if repeated to SWMBO, would
get me in hot water. I mentioned this to him in the context that the kids
love listening to their show. He thanked me for the feedback and I thought
I did what I could, not expecting much to change (radio drive time is radio
drive time after all).
Well I was quite pleasantly surprised when the segment was starting on
Valentines Day. He asked the jokemeister if the jokes were going to be
PG or R, and the response was PG-13. With this simple "warning",
I was able to be ahead of the game and switch the station for a few minutes.
So I wanted to post this public shout-out to David and thank
him for hearing the concerns of this parent!
It is nice to know that living in a small city like Athens has its advantages.
Yesterday, I spent about 20-30 minutes taking some pictures of this wonderful
place and you
can see them on Flickr.
