A SMTP TLS Shout Out To Chris Linfoot!
I have recently been working with a
client to enable SMTP
Transport Layer Security (TLS)
for both in-bound and out-bound email. In this case, the project was a
compliance-driven
requirement from their customers:
no TLS meant no more business. So after completing an upgrade
of their AS400 server to Domino 7.0.2,
we set out to enable TLS. We were having some configuration difficulties
and were able to validate what we were doing through an excellent post
entitled "Setting
up Domino SMTP TLS" on Chris
Linfoot's blog. So I want to
give a special shout-out to Chris for sharing his knowledge with the Lotus
community on his blog. Thanks Chris!
For those of you looking to enable secure
e-mail communications, you should take a look at TLS. There are limitations
and potential server performance impacts, but it is still worth looking
at. You can find out more about TLS
on the Wikipedia and in the Domino
7 administration help files.

Thanks.
Just one thing. Domino SMTP TLS isn't TLS at all. It's SSL. The distinction isn't usually that important but it's worth knowing about...

It's not an issue I've dealt with directly but I love seeing a critical issue resolved by a blogger. Well done and very cool!
