Certification Labs: WebSphere Tech Exchange vs. Lotusphere
It may hard to believe, but members
of the IBM Lotus Notes and Domino Community may be spoiled a bit by the
certification support received over the years (and no, let us not dwell
on the loss of the CLP discount at Lotusphere 2007). When at Lotusphere,
IBM Lotus sets up a certification lab chock full of study and review materials
for the exams, including free access to CertFX
practice test software. At the
WebSphere Tech Exchange,
this is not the case. All you get is access to take the tests. I was outside
the lab when someone asked the IBMer about the lack of study/review materials,
and the answer was absolutely stunning: "We gave you all more than
enough advance notice to study and prepare for the exams, so there is no
need to have materials here". So members of the IBM Lotus Notes and
Domino community take heart. Sometimes the Lotus community gets better
support from IBM than does the WebSphere community. So be sure to say thank
you to the certification staff at Lotusphere
2007.

This is an interesting observation. I took my R6 Developer Update at Lotusphere 2005. I bought the Self Test Software practice exam and studied it before attending Lotusphere. In the practice labs, I studied the CertFX exams as a comparison. I found that there was some material in one and not the other. The ability to take advantage of both and pay for one was great. I then took the test at the lab and passed. Hurray for Lotusphere!
