Permalink IBM Announces New Lotus Security Certification

IBM has announced the availability of a brand new Lotus certification. The IBM Certified Advanced Security Professional - Notes and Domino 7
certification breaks ground in a couple of new ways. The first is that it is
the first security specific certification for IBM Lotus Software. While other certification exams have included security related questions, this is the first exam dedicated solely to this topic. It will also be the first IBM Lotus certification examination that will require a person to not only pass the examination as a whole, but pass each of the individual competency sections as well. This is a big change for people who could test really high in some areas and not worry about other areas.

To obtain the certification, individuals must be an IBM Certified System Administrator - Notes and Domino 7. In addition, passing the new exam (Exam 755 IBM Lotus Notes Domino 7 Implementing and Administering Security) will only grant the new certification, It will NOT qualify as the elective exam to be an IBM Certified Advanced System Administrator - Notes and Domino 7.

It will be interesting to see how well this new certification is accepted and embraced by the Notes/Domino community. People have been asking for such a certification for years, but will they now see value in it? One way IBM could add value would be to take the Microsoft approach and team with the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) to leverage the new certification. In November of 2005. Microsoft announced a revamping of the Security
Solutions partner program. By adding ISACA certified staff to their practices (who also passed a MS security exam), MS Partners would then qualify to be able to offer the solutions security offering. This is something IBM can and should do in cooperation with their business partners.

This is really good news, but it really needs to be accepted, not only by the Notes community but especially by the 'outside' world!

I think that this is pretty interesting way to pass a test - 75% on each section AND a passing grade overall. I like it. Also, CertFX has the practice exam on sale right now. So, I am going to take this test!

Just one niggle: this new qualification is potentially sending an iffy message -- that only sysadmin types need worry about security.

I think us devs could do with something similar!
