The Business Controls Caddy

Permalink Who Does QA Work on Forbes Magazine Writers?

I arrived in Las Vegas last night for the GroupWise Advisor Summit. Unlike my trip in July, the temperature is mild compared to the 118 degrees back then. But then Tom Duff pinged me this morning and sent my internal temperature boiling. Why? Because Dan Lyons went ahead and mentioned this site indirectly in his November 14, 2005 cover story entitled "Attack of the Blogs". Instead of taking an opportunity to put together a well crafted story about business risks associated with blogs, he attacks people and their blogs without providing full contextual information. In my case he says:

"One blogger said she (
Sara Radicati) was doing something shady by operating a group that helps small companies find venture funding."

First of all, he should have at least had the courtesy to mention me by name. Second, he should remember that this statement is just plain wrong, and my exchanges with him on this topic are well
documented here on this site. But that would have made he him and his editor seem incompetent at best. There are pother issues raised in this article with business controls that I will address later this week. Until then, it is almost time for the Florida-Georgia game. Goooo Dawgs!

Told ya!

What's funny to me is that he talks about the Domino vs. Radicati flap in an article that's all about anonymity and bloggers supposed "immunity" from libel. Do you know of ANYONE from the Domino community that didn't slap their name all over their responses to Radicati? It was, in fact, Radicati that tried to hide behind internet anonymity in their response. The whole reason they could try to get people fired and so forth is precisely because they took responsibility for their statements!

I think you meant October 14, 2005?

No, November 14 is correct. They published online first...

Fighting Fud

Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) are too often used as marketing tools. And too many mainstream publications are citing reports that have no validity. So if you know anybody who is citing these publications and reports to make business decisions, please point them to one or more of these links. You can also point them to the "Fighting FUD" index of stories and/or add the "Fighting FUD" graphic link to your web site.
