IBM Dumps Sametime in Favor of Microsoft LCS
I could not believe my ears when I heard
it! Sametime is
dead at IBM! Real news or FUD?
Well it is the latter, and it came up in reference to an IT/SarBox Auditor
trying to remedy some problems with employees at his company using AOL
Instant Messenger and MSN
Messenger. Here is what the auditor
posted to a Sarbanes-Oxley Listserv today:
"I (am) getting pushback form some sales people that M$ IM is the
corporate standard for IBM; however, no one knows how IBM has this set
up".
The scary thing is that this company sells hardware and software, including
products offered by IBM. Carl
Tyler suggested that perhaps
IBM is using some of the $75
Million SmartSuite settlement
with Microsoft to buy Live Communications Server. So if anybody has any
news or thoughts on this startling development, please feel free to post

Could it be that IBM runs Sametime internally on MS Windows 2Kx servers? Don't even know if that's true, but if it is then one can imagine how the old "telephone" game could distort that fact into "MS IM is the coporate standard for IBM".

Remember that Sametime came about as the combination of two separate technologies/companies that IBM purchased. At least one of those products had some pretty strong ties with MS technology. That was quite a while ago but sometimes these things stay around too long like a bad smell.

Apparently some of your readers didn't see your tongue firmly planted in cheek. Obviously, IBM is using Sametime and only Sametime.
Did you find out any information about the person who said otherwise and his/her source?
