"Thunderbirds" Are Go and Why You Must Watch Dennis Leary's "Rescue Me"
First things first, I do not care if
it gets bad reviews or people think it is too much like Spy Kids. I grew
up watching the old
BBC classic, produced by Gerry
Anderson (UFO,
Space:1999),
and am looking forward to seeing the Thunderbirds
in a live action feature. A bonus I did not know until today is that it
is being directed by Jonathan Frakes! With Anthony Edwards as "Brains"
and Ben Kingsley as the "Hood", it should be a fun watch.
Second, I have never been a great fan of Rubert Murdoch's enterprises or
Dennis Leary*. But Leary's new show about Firefighters called "Rescue
Me" is
probably the best written and acted show I can remember in a long time.
It airs Wednesday nights at 10:00 PM EST/EDTon F/X and is definitely worth
checking out.
*HBO aired an excellent documentary last year called "Curse
of the Bambino". As I
watched, I thought that my oldest child would love it. Then Dennis Leary
came on and repeatedly used the "F" word, making a wonderful
documentary child unfriendly. I called the producers the next day to express
my disgust and asked if they would be releasing a version with the word
bleeped out (it is key to the culture of BOSOX fans). The woman tried to
snow me by telling me that that was impossible because they would have
to put it back on the AVID
to do it and that was not technically feasible. Unfortunately, I have used
an AVID and that is precisely its strength. That is why it is called non-linear
'digital" editing. Oh well...
